5回目の開催となるライヴイベント「Ruby Tuesday」が大盛況のうちに終了！

ニューカマーをフィーチャーしたライブ企画「HOT STUFF presents Ruby Tuesday 5 supported by TUMBLING DICE」が5月19日、渋谷WWWで開催された。

このイベントは、ホットスタッフがレコメンドする新人バンドと、彼らがリスペクトする先輩バンドが同じステージに立つというイベント「TUMBLING DICE〜ダイスをころがせ〜」と連動したもので、2企画ともに「ホットスタッフはロックバンドを全力で応援します」という宣言のもと昨年スタート。5回目となるこの日はMrs.GREEN APPLE、ウソツキ、vivid undress、Rei、杉恵ゆりかの5組がメインステージとラウンジエリアに交互に登場しフロアを沸かせた。

メインステージのトップバッターは男女5人組vivid undress。コーネリアスのSEから1曲目のダンスナンバー「パラレルワ」になだれ込むと、まず最初にボーカル・kiilaの伸びやかなハイトーン・ボイスが観客を引き込む。そのうえで、どっしりしたグルーヴや流麗なアンサンブルで壮大なスケールを描くなど楽曲ごとに多彩な引き出しをみせ、高い演奏力でも新人とは思えない破格さをアピール。キーボード・rioの個性派キャラが場を和ませながら、ラストは＜J-POP突然変異型ROCKクインテット＞と自称する彼らの代表曲になるであろう「簡単な言葉」で、バンドとしての希有な佇まいを浮き彫りにした。

ラウンジエリアではシンガー・ソングライター杉恵ゆりかが間髪入れずにキーボードでの弾き語りをスタート。「女の子はスカートの中にいろいろな思いを隠している」と語る彼女が、会場をスカートの中にたとえて、その隠された思いを透明感あふれる声で真っ直ぐに赤裸々に歌い上げる。ピリリとエッセンスを効かせた歌詞とポップに転調するメロディ、自身の芯の強さが見え隠れするバランスが実にいい。その名も「skirt」や、髪を切る心情を綴った「ジョキッ」など4曲を披露し、フロアを女の子の気持ちでいっぱいにした。

続くメインステージには、「決して嘘をつかないバンド、ウソツキです」という第一声とともに4人組ギターロック・バンド、ウソツキが登場。「新木場発、銀河鉄道」「金星人に恋をした」などタイトルにも表れているように、不思議な距離感とファンタジーやフィクションの世界漂うナンバーを次々にプレイ。さまざまな効果も奏でたギターの音色も印象的で、竹田昌和（vo＆g）の文学的な歌詞に寄り添うメロディアスな曲調は、まさに王道“うたもの"バンドの真骨頂。「ピースする」の前に語られた「自分のなかにある音楽を信じてる」というMCとも相俟って、バンド名とは裏腹な誠実さを光らせていた。

ラウンジエリア2組目はRei。1曲目に披露したジョニー・ウィンターのカバー「Illustrated Woman」から自身のナンバー「BLACK BANANA」まで、そこに居合わせた全員の度肝を抜いた彼女は弱冠22歳のシンガー・ソングライター。ギターをつまびくテクニックも圧倒的な歌声もハープも、どれをとっても本物のブルースマンそのもので、1曲終える度に大歓声が飛び交う。なかでもバスドラムでキックを踏みながらの演奏は、まるでブルースバンドのステージを聴いているかのようだった。古き良きを踏襲するだけでなく、現在の彼女をとおして生み出される音楽のリアリティに、フロアも熱く沸き立った。

この日のトリを務めたのは、フックあるメロディと耳に残る歌詞で注目を集める5人組、Mrs.GREEN APPLE。勢い良くステージに現れたメンバーの姿から、ステージに立つのが楽しくて仕方がないという様子が伝わってくる。「我逢人」にはじまり、バンドとしての爆発力を発揮した「ナニヲナニヲ」、大森元貴（vo＆g）がハンドマイクで聴かせた「アンゼンパイ」など続々と繰り出されるなか、新曲も披露。大きな手応えがプレイにも楽曲にもダイナミズムをもたらしているようだ。お揃いの動きをみせるなど、パフォーマンスに遊び心も加えながら本編が終了。アンコールでは、この日誕生日を迎えた藤澤涼架（key）がお祝いのタスキをかけて登場する一幕も。その後、大歓声のなかデビュー曲「StaRt」を演奏した5人。結成から約2年、凄まじい急成長ぶりをみせつけた。

全組ニューカマーでブッキングされたこのイベント。前売りチケットは1000円（ドリンク代別）という価格もあって、平日にも関わらず満員御礼の大盛況、ロック・バンドとライブハウス・シーンの熱を証明する一夜となった。

なお、次回「TUMBLING DICE3〜ダイスをころがせ〜」はアルカラ／ヒトリエ／QOOLAND／アンテナ（オープニングアクト）を迎え5月28日（木）・恵比寿リキッドルームにて。「Ruby Tuesday 6」はアンテナ／カラスは真っ白／SHE'S／ヒグチアイを迎え7月7日（火）・新宿LOFTにて行われる。
