水曜日のカンパネラ、新曲「メロス」のMVは超モンゴル！

水曜日のカンパネラが新曲「メロス」をデジタルシングルとして5月26日にリリースすることを発表した。

「メロス」は、2017年2月発表のアルバム『SUPERMAN』後に初めてリリースされる新曲で、太宰治の短編小説「走れメロス」がモチーフとなっている。作詞・作曲はケンモチヒデフミ。

そして、配信に先駆けて「メロス」のMVが公開された。先日、東京競馬場からの配信限定生ライヴを行なった、日本ダービーとコラボレーションプロジェクト「東京遊駿」の第2弾として制作されたもので、全編モンゴルロケの作品！ 水カンとしては、海外撮影された2作目のMVとなる。

水カン史上最大規模となる同MVは総勢300人以上の出演者、スタッフを動員し、昼間は25℃、夜はマイナス5℃にもなるモンゴル国で、原住民の全面協力のもと、実際に周辺に住んでいる地元の子供たち100人と100頭の馬と共にコムアイも自ら馬に乗り、手綱を操りながら撮影を敢行した。

MV監督は、サカナクション「years」、水曜日のカンパネラ「アラジン」「松尾芭蕉」「ツチノコ」「メデューサ」などを手がけた山田智和が担当。今回の主役はある一人のモンゴル人の少女で、その“成長”にフォーカスを当て、コムアイとの偶然の出会いや別れ、子供たちとの交流を描いた作品で、子供たちと馬が織りなす躍動感、子供たちと共にモンゴルという土地に溶け込んだコムアイのナチュラルな表情が見どころとなっている。

モンゴルの乾いた空気、風の流れ、馬や現地の子供たちの躍動感が感じられる、日本では撮影することができないMVに仕上がった。

「砂漠のように波打ちながら延々と続く荒野に、太陽が照りつけて、砂嵐が轟々鳴って、みんなで目を細く開けて、今日撮りたいものをじっと見守る。100頭の馬と100人のこども。とわたし。と、アノちゃん。
今回のヒロインのアノちゃんは、もともと出演をお願いしていたサーカス団の女の子が怪我で入院してしまい、ピンチヒッターとして撮影前日にキャスティングされた。美しい18歳で、部外者の私をモンゴルの世界に案内してくれた。石の名前や、馬の名前。乾ききった馬の糞は、燃料にするので呼び名が変わることとか。このビーズの飾りはモンゴルではおでこにつけるんだ、とか。
この乾燥した広大な地では、昼は35度の真夏になり、夜は氷点下の真冬になる。みんな野菜より肉を食べる。とても険しいように聞こえるかもしれないけれど、自然のなかでほったらかしにされて、頑張らなきゃいけないとき、ふしぎと、大きな安心を感じる。
最初に車を降りて土の上に放り出された時、それまで、眠いな、すでに疲れた、と思っていたのに、向こうの向こうまでひたすらにだだっぴろいので、身体の芯から嬉しくなった。ずっと中身がこわくて開けられないでいた箱を開けたような、すっきりしたかんじ。
ここでは、こどもたちは、ジャガイモを転がしたようにころんころん遊びまわって、馬をひっかけ走り、どつき合い、馬から降りて寝転がり、また馬を走らせ…。何度も同じカットをやり直しても、待たされても、ずっと目を細めてニコニコしている。
モンゴル人は本当に機嫌が良い。隙あらば風に吹かれてそよそよ〜って顔をする。山の向こうを感じてるような顔をする。
手伝ってくれたモンゴルの人たちも、アジアの他の国の人よりも感覚が似ている気がする。 同じ遺伝子が、二つの違う環境で生きていて、再会したような、懐かしさを感じた。
帰ってからも耳の穴から黒い砂がザラザラ出て来たけれど、いい加減ザラザラ出てこなくなってしまって、さみしい。
砂嵐と太陽に当てられ帰る頃にはすっかり顔がモンゴル人になっていた、信頼のおける撮影チームのみんな、ありがとう。
インスピレーションをくれた、繊細で美しいサラブレッド、競馬場で働く馬を愛する皆様、新しい楽しみを教えてくれてありがとう。
