10-FEET、“思いの強さのエネルギー”を 表面に出す作業

　関西地区最大の野外フェスとして定着した感のある『京都大作戦』の主催を務めるなど精力的な活動をまい進する10-FEETが、約14カ月振りのシングルをドロップ！　心に響く音楽を生み出し続ける彼らの最新サウンドの制作秘話に迫る。

──“激情”という表現が取材用の資料の中にあったのですが、まさにぴったりなフレーズだと思います。音像しかり、叫ぶように歌うヴォーカルしかり、感情が音からほとばしってくるようで。

TAKUMA なんて言うのかな…なんか、普通に“ロック”したいなっていう、そういう感じが出てるのかもしれないですね。表現はどうであれ、“ロック”をしようっていう雰囲気は、作っていく時にもあったので。ウェットな感じの曲ではあるんですけど、すごい激しめというか、熱量がある曲ですし。

NAOKI 自分的には、最初からそういう“激情感”を出すとかいうよりも…例えば、ドラムのリズムであったり、ギターのコード進行だったりを受けて出てきたものを音にして作っていったというか。そういう意味では、自然体な感じで、曲が一番活きるラインとかを組み立てていった感じだったと思いますね。

KOUICHI うん。パッて聴いた感じで、自然に自分が感じるリズムでドラムも叩いて。だから、頭で考えて作るっていうよりは、“感じて叩いた”っていうイメージかもしれないです。

──曲からイメージして自然に出てきたものが、こういう“激情感”だったというか。メンバー3人、力強い音像とか曲調はイメージに共通していたようですね。

KOUICHI “気合い！”って感じで。僕の中では、“気合い”ソングかもしれないです。各々の“気合い”を音にしっかり入れて、それを“激情”に変えるみたいな。“エモ”、とか“エモコア”みたいなものじゃなく。

──そんな“気合い”に満ちたサウンドに対して、歌詞に関してはどうでしょう？　この曲を作っていた当時の心境は、やっぱり何かしらのかたちで歌詞に投影されていると思うのですが。

TAKUMA その頃は、自分の中でいろんなことがあんまりうまくいってなかった時期というか。例えば、ずっとスタジオに入ってた時期に若いヤツから相談事の電話とかがあって、その時にいろいろ話はしたけど、自分の音楽をやりながらの時期だったんで、たっぷり時間を使ってやったりでけへんかったなって、水臭さを感じてしまったり。そういう、悔いてる部分とか、自分が恥じてる部分を見直すような時期だったんですけど…。そういうものを何かしらのかたちで音楽にしたいと思った時に、“思いの強さのエネルギー”っていうものから陰の部分だけを取り除いて、中核にある力というか、生命力みたいなものを表面に出すような作業をしていた感じだったと思いますね。

──《夢の中の空 はばたき尽くしてその向こうへ》という歌詞もありますが、自分の中の陰な部分も力に変えて羽ばたいていきたいみたいな、前向きなエネルギーをすごく感じました。

TAKUMA あぁーっ…過去の作品でもそういう感覚が出ているものは目に付くと思うんですけど。深刻さを深刻さでもって僕らが音楽にしても誰も聴きたいと思わないだろうし、僕ら自身もそんな曲は作りたくないし。その表現をするに至った原因はネガティブな感情だとしても、“辛くても頑張ろうよ”とか“元気出そうよ”って表現をするほうが、より健全な姿じゃないかと僕は思うので。ネガティブなものや辛いことは、この先の人生に当然待ち受けてる。でも、だからこそ強く生きていくんだっていうような勇気に如何に結び付けていけるか…みたいなことですよね。

──今年は震災っていう悲しい出来事があったりして、そういう中で音楽にパワーをもらったっていう人も多いと思うんですね。この曲もそういう存在になったらいいなっていう思いは、やっぱり少なからずあるのでは？

TAKUMA そういう行為は本当に大変やし、辛さを力に変える余裕はなかなか生まれないですよね…。でも、今回の作品を含めた僕らの音楽で元気になったり、楽しくやれるきっかけになってくれたらっていう気持ちはずっと変わらないもので。

KOUICHI 何かをするためのきっかけになるようなね。

TAKUMA うん。今年は『東日本大作戦』っていうツアーで茨城や東北を回ったりもしてるんですけど、そういう場所でもみんなで本気で楽しむための焚き火になればいいなと思ってますし。

NAOKI みんながみんなそうじゃないとは思うんですけど、僕らの音源を聴いて元気付けられたり、パワーを得てくれたりしている人もいると思うんで。作品なり、ライヴっていう“生”の場所なりが、直接そういうパワーになってくれたらいいなって。

──カップリングには、これもまたすごくエモーショナルな「淋しさに火をくべ」と、約1分半の曲の中に遊び心のあるアイデアがたくさん詰め込まれている「short story」っていう、全然違うカラーの2曲が並んでいるのが印象的でした。

NAOKI そうですね。「寂しさに火をくべ」はイントロとか頭のほうのメロディーとエンディングの雰囲気がかなり違うし。その結び付きにくい要素をストーリー性ある流れで持っていくことができたのが良かったかな、と。

TAKUMA あと、3曲目だけは違う感じの曲が欲しいなとはなんとなく思っていたので、何かネタを持ってくるにしろ、新たなものを作るにしろ、全然違うイメージのものをっていう意識はありましたね。曲自体の骨格を作る前に肉付けするようなアイデアを考えると、キャッチーさに欠けてしまったりして難しいんですよ。でも、新しいこと、今までになかったものが欲しいなと常に思いながら、自分たちとしては作品を作っているつもりです。
