umbrella release one-man　【愚問】無観客生配信ライヴレポート

6月11日、umbrellaに最も相応しい「傘の日」にリリースされた、新曲「愚問」。
3月に味園ユニバースで行われた10-11周年記念ライヴ(無観客配信)にて発表された今作のリリースで、彼らの11年目が本格的に幕を開ける。

そして本日、北堀江club vijonにて行われた無観客ワンマンが、「愚問」のライヴ初お披露目となる。

妖しく浮遊感のあるサビが印象的な「リビドー」からスタートしたステージは、シンプルにコンパクトにまとめられている。(偶然？にもセンターの3人が持っていた楽器は皆ウッド調で統一されていて、更にビジュアル的にシンプルだった)

装飾を削ぎ落したぶん、浮き彫りになったのはバンドが本来持っているアンサンブルの完成度や研ぎ澄まされたプレイ、そして楽曲の持つ力だ。

「こんばんはー！umbrellaです。新曲長く待たせてすみません！強いメッセージを持ったこの曲で、勝負をかけます！！」

唯(Vo/G)のMCを合図にステージが夕暮れのようなライトに照らされると、キャッチーなメロディとアグレッシブなサウンドに、今のumbrellaの全てが詰まったかのような力強い楽曲が披露された。

「届かない想いよ　いつかそこで出会うなら　なんて【愚問】だ」

「いつか」「きっと」なんて甘い願望を【愚問】と嗤い、現実に立ち向かう前向きさと強さを歌うこの新曲は、思うように活動出来なかった一年余りの間、彼らがこの渦中に葛藤の末見出した答えなのだろう。

中盤のギターソロからラストに至るまでの緊張感と、スケールの大きなプレイは圧巻で、この楽曲が大勢のオーディエンスの目の前で披露される日が楽しみでならない。

ライヴは後半にかけても、疾走感溢れる「レイニングレター(Re:arrange)」やラウドで骨太のサウンドが会場を揺さぶる「悪路」など、シンプルなステージゆえにバンドの力量が浮き彫りになる楽曲を次々に展開し、飾り気のない力強さを見せつける。

「Witch？」では、ギターを置いた唯がステージ上を自在に舞い、妖しい動きで画面の向こうのオーディエンスを盛り上げていく。

ラストは「ヨルノカーテン」。爽やかなギターサウンドと美しいメロディに、空に向かって祈るように右手を伸ばす様は、狭いライヴハウスの中に壮大な星空の景色を思わせてくれた。

7月に寺田町Fireloopにて1年5か月ぶり(!!)の有観客ワンマンライヴ(＋配信ライヴ)が行われる(しかも柊(G)の生誕祭)という嬉しいニュースや、唯が監修として参加した新曲「愚問」のリリックビデオの配信など、（特に中盤から大サビにかけてはグッと来るから必見!だそうだ）今後の活動が少しずつ明らかにされたのち、特別にアンコールとして再び演奏された「愚問」は、序盤よりも高いメンバーのテンションも相まってよりハードに、より自由に、よりエモーショナルに響いた。

冴え渡るギターソロも、唯の歌声もここに来てさらに力強さを増していた。
メンバー全員が“好きだ”と断言していたこの楽曲には、彼らのこれからに対する並々ならぬ覚悟が詰まっていることを感じさせる。

情勢を鑑みて無観客にて行うことが決まっていた本日だが、予測がつかない情動が有観客ライヴの素晴らしさだとすれば、無観客のメンバーのみで構成されるシンプルな美しさもまた魅力だった。

鍛え抜かれたバンドサウンドをもう少し見ていたい気もしたが、「次の予定、次の楽しみ」がある日常を少しずつだが取り戻せた喜びは大きい。

本格的に11周年目の活動をスタートさせたumbrellaは、精力的な活動でこれからのまだ見えない未来に降り注ぐ雨に向けても、傘を差し出してくれるだろう。
