Foo FightersのステージにマンウィズJean-ken Johnnyがサプライズ出演

7月24日、苗場スキー場で行われたフジロック・フェスティバル2015のヘッドライナーFoo Fightersのステージに、MAN WITH A MISSIONのJean-ken Johnnyが飛び入り参加し、初のコラボを果たした。

ファン垂涎のナンバー「Everlong」から始まったFoo Fightersのライブは、新旧畳み掛けるような名曲のラッシュ。GREEN STAGE前を埋め尽くした32,000人の観客も終始歓声をあげる大満足の内容となった。

ライヴセットも後半に差し掛かり、いよいよクライマックスというところで、デイヴ・グロールが「あと1曲聞きたいか!?」と観客を煽る。「昔からのFoo Fightersファンに捧げる！」と叫ぶやいなや、オールドスクールファンにはたまらない「Breakout」を演奏し始めた。

曲の中盤で、デイヴが客席に手拍子を求めるパートを迎えると、照明が明るくなり、なんとステージ上に突然Jean-ken Johnnyが登場。骨折で動くことのできないデイヴに変わってステージを縦横無尽に駆け回り、Foo Fightersと共にステージを盛り上げた。

この奇跡のコラボレーションに、ファンは狂喜乱舞。「スペシャル･ゲストだ！」と紹介をしてくれたデイヴと拳で挨拶を交わし、颯爽とステージを後にした。

このコラボレーションは、昨年、Foo Fightersの最新アルバム『Sonic Highways』制作の舞台裏とアメリカの主要8都市に根づく音楽史をデイヴの視点で追った同名のドキュメンタリーの、日本最速試写会の際、デイヴ・グロールとJean-ken Johnnyが行ったSkype対談がきっかけとなり実現した。

対談の際、Jean-ken Johnnyとデイヴは意気投合し、今回『Fuji Rock Festival』の会場で初対面が実現した。楽屋で対面したFoo FightersメンバーとJean-ken はお互いの音楽話に花を咲かせ意気投合、デイヴから急きょステージ出演のオファーがあり、今夜のコラボレーションが現実となった。

ライブ後、Jean-ken Johnnyは、「ライヴ前ニ楽屋へ挨拶ニ行ッタラ、Dave 大先輩カラ“ステージニ出テクレ”ト言ワレテ。彼ハ僕ノHEROナノデ光栄デシタシ、本当ニ楽シカッタデス」 とコメントしている。

日米両国を代表するロックバンドの奇跡のコラボレーションが実現した一夜。今後両者の関係がどんな形で進展していくのか。期待が高まるばかりだ。
