UROBOROS、初ワンマンで見せつけた力量の違い

先日2nd EP「ZODIAC」をリリースしたばかりのUROBOROS（ウロボロス）が、4月29日に初となるワンマンライヴ『THE ARK OF ZODIAC』をTSUTAYA O-EASTにて開催した。

黒瀬圭亮 （ex. Asriel）、上木彩矢、大村孝佳 （C4, LIV MOON, DCPRG, Marty Friedman, BABYMETALほか）、中村泰造 （cune）、笹渕啓史 （CQ, Creature Creature, ex. Plastic Tree）ら、様々なジャンルやシーンで活躍する凄腕ミュージシャンたちによって結成されたプロジェクト・UROBOROS。上述のメンバーに加えて、大村孝佳（Gt.）と同じくBABYMETAL“神バンド”でも活躍するLeda（Gt.）が、この 日のライブに二人目のギタリストとして参加を発表したことも話題となっていた。

この日のライヴは「ZODIAC」の幕開けを告げる「Chokmah」から始まり、続けざまに披露された新作のリード・トラック 「ZODIAC」によって冒頭からボルテージは最高潮となった。超絶技巧に裏付けられた緻密な演奏に、それぞれのメンバーが“生”でしか感じ られない熱を吹き込み、そのまま「LOST EDEN」「Zoetrope」と“攻め”の楽曲で序盤を駆け抜けていく。

「初のワンマンということで、熱い夜と初めての経験を一緒に感じられたらいいなと思っています。最後まで盛り上がっていきましょう！」と上木 彩矢（Vo.）が茶目っ気を見せて、突入した中盤戦。「Infection」「Lunar eclipse」に続いて、彼らの代表曲とも言える「Black Swallowtail」のイントロのストリングスが流れると、オーディエンスからは待ってましたとばかりの大歓声が湧き起こり、その興奮は冷めやらぬこ となく、ますますその熱量を増していく。

この日は、このライヴのために用意したという新曲「reincarnation」「Wiegenlied」も初披露された。そしてメンバーの 男性陣の咆哮が印象的な楽曲「IGИIS」では、上木彩矢がオーディエンスを煽り、オーディエンスがそれに応えて拳を突き上げてシンガロン グ。終盤に差し掛かって昂った最強のメンバーたちは、ステージを縦横無尽に動き回り、ふざけ合うかのように超絶技巧を見せつけ合い、絡ませ合 い、お互いのプレイへの絶対的な信頼関係を垣間見せた。

本編最後の曲は、新作「ZODIAC」でもフィナーレを飾った「Luminous」。これまでにリリースした全楽曲に加え新曲まで、すべてを 出し切ったメンバーは白い霧に包まれるようにしてステージを去ったが、もちろんアンコールを求める声は鳴り止まない。少し経ってから、“ダー ク・ファンタジー”な世界観を徹底していた本編とは打って変わって、ラフなTシャツ姿に着替えたメンバーが登場。

アンコールで披露されたのは、4月20日に全世界で配信限定リリースされた1st EP「ANOTHER ARK」English ver.より、「Black Swallowtail」English ver.と、さらにこの日のために準備してきたという同じく「ZODIAC」English ver.。彼らの代表曲がまた新たに生まれ変わり、サウンドも含めて世界で戦えるロックバンドだということを改めて強く印象付けるパフォーマンスだった。

アンコールを含めて全17曲、UROBOROS初となるワンマンはその濃密さゆえにあっという間に幕を閉じた。このライヴを観た者すべてが、 等しく次のライブを待ち遠しく感じていることだろう。UROBOROSの今後の動向に注目したい。
