【Prague】空前絶後！　“瞬間”を封じ込めた最新作

　1月31日、渋谷CLUB QUATTRO。観客の見守る中、一発勝負でレコーディングされたニューアルバム『ある篝火について』。制作エピソード、当日の心境を3人が語る。

──本作のアイデアは、どんな経緯で浮上したのですか？

鈴木「何かインパクトのあることをやりたいっていうのがずっとあって、いろいろ話し合っていたんですけど、“こんなことやったぜ！”って一番バンドとして胸を張れるのが、これじゃないかと思ったんです。」

金野「でも、正直言って、やるまではどうなるかよく分からなかったです。それはスタッフも含めてですけど。スタジオでの一発録りとか、ライヴをただ録るのとは違いましたから。」

鈴木「当日、演奏しながら、この企画の意味や意義を実感していきました。最初はアスリートが試合に臨むようなスポーツマンシップに則っていたかもしれないけど、途中から“お客さんと楽しんでるのもアルバムに入らなきゃ”って思うようになりました。でも、楽しさを感じられたのは途中から（笑）。」

伊東「始まる前に、どれだけ逃げたくなったことか（笑）。あと、僕は1週間前にインフルエンザにかかって、本当に申し訳ないなと。本番前に治って良かったです。終わった後は開放感から、ひとり車で西のほうへ旅に出ました。雲ばっかり見ている1日があったり…。」

鈴木「その気持ちは分かる（笑）。当日まで“緊張”という名の彼女と付き合っている感じでしたから。」

──でも、どの曲もすごくいいテイクが録れましたね。

鈴木「バンド内で鬼門だったというか、重要視していたのが「オカルト」と「オイルランプ」。この2曲は、リズム隊のふたりでノリをずっと研究していたよね？」

金野「うん。演奏面のすごく深いところまで潜った曲です。ちゃんとひとつのかたちが作れたっていう感覚は、本番の1週間前までなかなかこなかったんですよ。」

鈴木「Pragueってアレンジを複雑にしたがるバンドではあったんですけど、このレコーディングを見据えたことで、余計なことはしなくなりました。例えば、「トランスブック」なんて、2時間くらいでできた曲ですから。」

伊東「「Fun Park」もそんな感じでした。（鈴木）雄太がパッと弾き始めて、本人から自然と出てきたメロディーが良かったんですよ。それをそのままかたちにしていきました。」

鈴木「「インスタントスカイ」と「作戦C」はHemenwayのCharmにギターで入ってもらっていますけど、それは楽曲としての必然性があったからで。根本は“この3人は、こんなことができるんだぜ！”っていうのを言うためのイベントでした。自分たちでも終わった後で、“俺らはこんなことをできるんだな”ってことを再認識しましたね。」

金野「個々のプレイヤーの魅力にも改めて気付きました。緊張感でいっぱいいっぱいになって、素っ裸になったからだと思います。あの瞬間のふたりはカッコ良かった。恥ずかしいけど…途中で涙しそうになることがありました（笑）。」

伊東「俺は後ろからふたりを見て、いろいろ感じました。“子供を見る親って、こういうことなのかな？”って思ったり（笑）。雄太の曲間での進行も頼もしかった。今までに感じた中で、一番大きい背中でした。それを感じた時、すごく誇らしかった。その背中を見れば見るほど涙腺が緩んでいました（笑）。」

鈴木「作り終わってすぐに、“次は何をしよう？”って考え始めていたのも嬉しい。“バンドとしてこういうことをしてやった！”って言い続けるのは楽しいし、大事だなと。今後もそういうことが言える曲とか、さまざまな活動をやりたいと思っています。」
