GLAY、20万人ライブを行なった聖地・幕張でFC発足20周年記念ライブを開催

GLAYが7月30日、31日にGLAYオフィシャルファンクラブ「HAPPY SWING」の発足20周年を記念して、5年ぶりにファンクラブ限定ライブを幕張メッセで開催し、2日間で5万6000人が来場した。

ライブ最終日である7月31日は、1999年に同じく幕張で行なわれた伝説の20万人ライブ『GLAY EXPO '99 SURVIVAL』と同日であった。1曲目はファンクラブの名称にもなっている楽曲「HAPPY SWING」からスタート！ なお20万人ライブ『GLAY EXPO '99 SURVIVAL』もこの曲からスタートしている。

会場には360度センターステージが設けられ、ステージが回転するなど、迫力のライブを披露。またライブの構成に関してもメンバー4人それぞれのプロデュースコーナーで構成されており、各メンバーが作曲した楽曲を4ブロックに分けて演奏された。中にはライブで初披露する曲もあり、全体で本編26曲、アンコールを含め全28曲演奏され、合計で3時間を超えるボリューム満載の公演となった。

またライブ中のMCでTERUは「ベネチアに旅行に行った時、友人からGLAYのライブを観てみたいと言われたことをきっかけに、10年後の30周年はベネチアでライブを行ないたい」との夢を語った。リーダーのTAKUROも「GLAYは大きな夢を語り、それを叶えていくことで大きくなってきた」と語り、これからもGLAYの活動からますます目が離せない。

また8月3日にリリースされる54thシングル「[DEATHTOPIA]」は全てHISASHIが作曲を手がけた楽曲だけを収録した1枚であり、ライブMCでも「デジタルなどで音楽が聴ける時代だが、自分の作った楽曲をまとめた1枚がCDになり、完成した作品を手に取った時やはり素直に嬉しかった」と語った。ライブ音源なども含まれた全8曲全てがHISASHI作曲であり、まさにファンにはたまらない1枚となっている。

アンコールでは、TVアニメ『クロムクロ』第2クールオープニングテーマ「超音速デスティニー」を披露し、ラストはライブ鉄板ナンバー「彼女の"Modern…"」を演奏。大盛り上がりの中、最後にTERUはMCで「20年間支えてくれて本当にありがとう。そして10年後もその先もずっと一緒に大きな夢を見ていこう！」と語り、改めてGLAYとファンの絆の強さを感じさせられたライブであった。
