AYABIE、もっとAYABIEを知ってほしい

シングル「流星」で待望のメジャーデビューを果たすAYABIE。バンドサウンドにこだわり抜いたという本作について語ってもらう！

──“バンドの体制も整い、やっとスタートラインに立てた”と前回のインタビューでおっしゃっていましたが、ついにメジャーデビューですね。バンド感、メロディーの美しさ、ストレートに響く歌詞…と、AYABIEの特性を凝縮した今回の制作で一番意識したことは何でしたか？

インテツ たくさんの人に聴いてもらえる機会なので、僕たち4人がロックバンドなんだっていうことを音で表現したくて、デモ段階からバンドサウンドをすごく意識していました。あと、「流星」に関してはAYABIEというバンド名を感じさせる、和のメロディーを入れたかったんですよ。タケヒトくんのギターソロだったり、最後のサビが来るタイミング、どこを取っても僕たちらしさが詰まっていると思います。

──選曲はすんなり決まりました？

インテツ 一曲の選曲会のために27曲出揃ったので、絞り込むのに時間がかかりましたね。でも、何曲か絞ったものをブラッシュアップして、夢人くんが仮歌を書いて吟味して…ひとつひとつの作業が丁寧にできました。それもあって、今回はどういう方向性で進んでいくかを全員がきちんと共有できた上でレコーディングに臨めました。

──どんどん加速していく中で、バンドサウンドとストリングスのハマり方も上手くマッチしていて、テンポの良い楽曲ですね。

タケヒト 作曲者のイメージが最初から強くあったので、ストリングスに関してはインテツが細かく指示をしてましたね。

インテツ 実は、AYABIEの中では分数長めの曲なんですよ。疾走感を保った状態で5分超えるのは難しいかなとも思ったんですけど、飽きが来なかった。アレンジの持って行き方とかが成功したんだなって。最後の余韻まで楽しんでほしいです。

──同じ言葉でも、歌い方や演奏ひとつで意味合いが変化しているのも聴きどころだなと。

夢人 歌詞は情景が浮かびやすい、本当に見たままのイメージを書きました。虫が鳴いてそうな涼しげな夏の日が舞台になっていて、過去にあったことが繰り返されていくという。ドラマチックに展開していく曲なので、歌詞もストーリー性があるものにしたくて。サビでの同じ言葉も、AメロBメロ部分のニュアンスの違いで、意味合いが変わってるんですよね。そういう心理描写を感じ取って聴いてもらえると嬉しいです。

──2曲目の「Lilia」はKENZOさんの作曲ですが、イメージとしてあったものは？

KENZO 疾走感、透明感、浮遊感ですね。もともと、自分の作る曲には切なさや美しさを求める傾向があって、「Lilia」も2年前ぐらいには原形があったんです。そんなに昔と今と差はないですけど、バンドの力強さと綺麗なピアノが軸になるように曲の流れを考えました。

──今回、2曲のPVを撮影されているとのことですが。

夢人 「Lilia」は従来のAYABIEのカラーが出ていて、「流星」は新しいことにチャレンジしようよってコンセプトで、CGを駆使した作品に…って、まだ完成形を観てないんですけど、面白いものが出来上がると思います。とにかく、もっとAYABIEを知ってほしい。

──それもあってか今回の曲は、スケールが大きいので、ドームやスタジアム級の会場でライヴができますよね。

夢人 ミュージシャンだったら、広い会場で自分の理想とする演出でライヴを観せたいという想いがあるので、そう言ってもらえると曲作って良かったなって思います。
