BUMP OF CHICKEN、地元・千葉で飾った結成20周年記念日！

BUMP OF CHICKENが2月11日（木）に千葉・幕張メッセ国際展示場9～11ホールで結成20周年記念Special Live「20」を開催！　バンドの歴史を網羅するような楽曲の数々を熱演し、集まった2万5000人の観客を大いに沸かせた。

20年前の1996年2月11日は、メンバー4人が最初にステージに立ち、バンドコンテスト地区予選に臨んだ日のため、今日はバンドの“成人の日"とも言えるメモリアルな日となった。

The Who「A Quick One, While He's Away」をオープニングSEにステージ上に登場したBUMP OF CHICKENは、「天体観測」でライヴの口火を切った。ステージ上の4人と気持ちを呼応させるかのように、サビのシャウトをオーディエンスが大声で歌う。さらに変拍子のリズムとギターの美しいアルペジオが響く「R.I.P」に続いて、「バトルクライ」のイントロが聴こえると、フロアからは喜びの声が。その後、「ひとりごと」「ナイフ」「ロストマン」といったひさびさに演奏されるナンバーが鳴るたびに、観客は大歓声や拍手で応えた。また、ライヴで演奏するのは初の「ベル」をセットリストに組み込むサプライズも！

MCでは直井由文（Ba）が結成記念日の由来を話し、その際に獲得した賞状をオーディエンスに見せる粋な計らいが。バンドがこれまで続けてこられたのは“それもこれも20年間聴いていてくれたリスナーの皆さんのおかげです”と口にした際には、感じ入るような表情を覗かせていた。また、藤原基央（Vo＆Gt）は“昔の曲をちょいちょいライブで演ってきたつもりでした、それでも全然演っていない曲があった”と笑いつつ、このような機会を得たことについて“幸せを感じています”と表現していた。

最新アルバム『Butterflies』のリード曲「Butterfly」の演奏に差し掛かると、YouTubeでの再生回数が公開後約2週間で約220万回となったMVを再現するかのように、何十ものレーザー光線が空中で交差しながら舞う。放射状に円を描いた照明との相乗効果で、場内を色とりどりに染め上げた。そして、同じくレーザーの演出がメンバーの演奏に華を添えた「ray」では、楽曲自身が持つどこか物悲しくも軽やかなリズムに乗ってメンバーもオーディエンスも弾むようにステップを踏み、幕張メッセの床を揺らした。

アンコールでは、TVアニメ『血界戦線』のオープニングテーマとして、日本国内のみならず海外からの高評価も獲得した「Hello,world!」を披露し、場内に再び熱狂を巻き起こす。そして“『ガラスのブルース』を作ったすぐあとに、バンドのテーマ曲があるといいなと思って”（藤原）という成り立ちを持つも音源化されていないレアナンバー「BUMP OF CHICKENのテーマ」を演奏して、ライヴを終えた。

しかし、まだまだ彼らのプレイを求める声に応え、すぐに再登場。“せっかくだから、1996年2月11日のステージで演った曲を”（直井）と言い、「DANNY」を観客にプレゼント。最終的に全18曲を心を込めて演奏し、名残惜しそうに舞台を降りていった。
