THE MODS、バンドスピリッツが詰まったアルバム『HAIL MARY』をドロップ！

THE MODSの35周年記念イヤーの幕開けを飾る、約2年振りとなるオリジナルアルバム『HAIL MARY』がついにリリースされた。

アメフトやラクビーにおいて、試合終了直前に劣勢のチームが逆転を狙って投げる、一か八かの神頼み的なロングパス“ヘイルメリーパス”がタイトルの由来というアルバム『HAIL MARY』。今までの周年にリリースされたアルバムにも、その時々の想いを乗せた楽曲を収録してきたが、今作は特に節目を意識させる楽曲が複数収められている。

THE MODSの代表曲のひとつに挙げられる「LOOSE GAME」（1991年発表）、そして「ROCKAWAY」（2011年発表）の流れを汲むような「STAY CRAZY」。“倒れ　立ち上がった夜”というフレーズで始まる、35年闘い続けてきたTHE MODSというバンドのファイティングスピリッツに満ちた「NOT FADE AWAY」。もちろん、さらなる先を見据えて、まだまだ闘う姿勢を崩さないが垣間見れる「FLY HIGH」や「GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY」なども収録されていて、まさに現在のTHE MODSだからこそのメッセージが詰まっている。これはファンならずとも一度は聴いてほしい名盤と言えるだろう。

また、同アルバムを携えての全国ツアーが2本決定している。アルバムツアーと同時にアニバーサリーのツアーとしての意味を持つロングツアーでは、アルバムからの新曲は当然、新旧の名曲が数多く披露されることだろう。

そして、1982年の「雨の野音」として語られる伝説のライヴをはじめ、活動の節目にはそのステージに立ち、30周年記念の際には森山は「もうこれが最後かもしれない」と口にしたのだが、バンドとファンにとっての”約束の地”と言える日比谷野外大音楽堂でのツアーファイナルも決定している。

いよいよ幕を開けた35周年記念イヤー。是非ともTHE MODSの現在のサウンドに、メッセージに、ライヴを体感していただきたい。
