佐野元春、2年ぶりのオリジナル・アルバムは“モダン・クラシックス”!?

佐野元春が2年ぶりとなるオリジナル・アルバム『MANIJU（マニジュ）』を7月19日にリリースすることがわかった。同作は佐野元春を筆頭に深沼元昭（Gui./プレイグス）、小松シゲル（Dr./ノーナ・リーヴス］、高桑圭（Bass/カーリー・ジラフ］、藤田顕（Gui./プレクトラム）、渡辺シュンスケ（Keys./シュローダー・ヘッズ）らで2005年に結成されたザ・コヨーテ・バンド名義による『COYOTE』（2007年）、『ZOOEY』（2013年） 、『BLOOD MOON』（2015年） に次ぐ4 作目となるオリジナル・スタジオ盤となる。

多彩でポップなサウンドが魅力の新作『MANIJU』は、サイケデリック、フォークロック、ニューソウルなどを現代的な解釈で再構築した、「佐野元春モダン・クラシックス」とでもいうべきサウンドに仕上がっている。リリックの面では、前作『BLOOD MOON』が実存的リアリズムで描く大人向けのロック・アルバムだったのに比べ、新作ではより若い都市生活者たちの憂いが描かれている。

アートワークは前作同様、ヒプノシスの流れを汲む英国のデザイン・チーム 'StormStudios' が担当。作品が持つロマンティックかつサイケデリックな雰囲気が視覚化されている。 また、レコーディングとマスタリング・エンジニアは長年、佐野元春 & THE COYOTE BANDのサウンドを手がけている渡辺省二郎とTED JENSEN（テッド・ジャンセン）。バンドのライブ・サウンドを生かすべくアナログ音を重視したサウンドに仕上がっている。

『MANIJU（マニジュ）』は特別編集盤（初回限定）、通常盤にアナログ盤の3形態でリリースされる。初回限定の特別編集盤には本編CDの他にバンドのフォトやレコーディング風景をデザインした100頁豪華アートブック、MVを収録したDVD、佐野自身のDJによる元春レイディオショー特別盤（CD）等、佐野元春監修のアートワークが満載。さらに先日NHK BSプレミアムで放送された「佐野元春ニューヨーク旅 ‘Not Yet Free'何が俺たちを狂わせるのか」内で公開された新曲『こだま - アメリカと日本の友人に』を無料ダウンロード出来るパスキーも封入される。

※ Maniju（マニジュ） とは
禅の言葉。誰の心の中にもある厄除けのまじないの珠のこと。マニジュは漢字で「摩尼珠」。摩尼は梵語マニ（mani） の音写。悪を去り、濁水を清らかにし、禍（わざわい）を去る徳をもつともいう。
