YOSHIKI、手術後初となる公の場で日本ツアーの詳細や術後の心境を語る

6月20日、X JAPANのリーダーであるYOSHIKIが緊急帰国し、都内で記者会見を実施。ツアーの具体的な内容が明らかにされた。

直前の開催発表であったにも関わらず、会場にはファンクラブから選ばれた数百人のファンが急きょ駆けつけ、当日朝に帰国したばかりのYOSHIKIが首にプロテクターを着用した姿で登場すると、会場内は大きな歓声と悲鳴に包まれ、目には涙を浮かべるファンもいた。

今回の日本ツアーでは今年3月に行われたウェンブリー・アリーナ公演の際にお披露目された映画『WE ARE X』の60分のスペシャルエディションが上映される事が発表され、各公演とも開演時間1時間前から上映を開始、その後コンサート本編が 2 時間以上行われる予定となっている。「ROSE OF PAIN」や「UNFINISHED」など、昔の曲をセットリストに入れ込む話が出ていることや、ストリングスを従えステージに立つ事などがYOSHIKI本人の口から明かされた。

また、今回の日本ツアーには理学療法士のカール・ダンスタンがイギリスから来日し、YOSHIKIが術後数週間という状況の中でもツアーを完走できるよう、公演の全日程に同行することとなった。ダンスタンは、U2、Red Hot Chilli Peppersなど、数多くの著名アーティストや俳優・女優をクライアントに持つ理学療法スペシャリストの団体として知られる『Atherapy』に所属しており、『007 スペクター』撮影中にジェームスボンド役のダニエル・クレイグの専属理学療法士を務める等、名立たる俳優、ミュージシャンから指名される凄腕。YOSHIKIと交流のあるU2のドラマー、ラリー・マレン・ジュニアの紹介で、日本ツアーの帯同が実現することとなった。

さらに、8月26日から始まる『YOSHIKIプレミアムディナーショー2017』では、売り上げの一部となる15万ドル（約1800万円）が寄付される計画が当初よりあったことも明かされ、それら計画されていた予定も踏まえた上で今回ショーは決行に至ったという。寄付はX JAPAN日本公演のストリングスアレンジ、そしてディナーショーのカルテットアレンジを手掛けるシェリー・バーグが学部長を務める、全米1、2の規模を誇る音楽部を持つマイアミ大学フロスト音楽校へ、音楽の発展のため未来の音楽家たちへ向けて贈られる。

会見の途中、YOSHIKIの口からリハビリ中に巡らせたという胸の内が語られる場面も。「ドラムプレイがまた再びできるようになるかはわからない。できるようになったとしても、以前と同じような激しい演奏は無理かもしれない。もしかするとそれをやりたいかどうか…それすら今の時点では自分自身にもわからない」そう語られた言葉からは、大きな手術を経験した今現在の、複雑な気持ちに揺れ動く様子が感じられる。

「X JAPANの再結成がなければ、2度も手術を受けることはなかっただろう。でも再結成によって得られた時間や世界への挑戦は価値あるもの。後悔はしていない。そして壁を壊すまではやめられない」危険な手術を経験し、こうして自分の人生について何度も考えたというYOSHIKI。しかし、メンバーや多くのファンからの支えによって手術を乗り越え、この日本ツアーという目標を糧に、「ステージに立つ以上は最高のものを見せる」と、前に進むことを決意した。

なお、日本ツアーに関しては、公演の主旨が変更になっているため、希望者にはチケット代金の払い戻しが行われる。
