X JAPAN、『コーチェラ・フェス』でマリリン・マンソンとのスペシャルパフォーマンスを披露

米カリフォルニア州インディオで行なわれた『コーチェラ・フェスティバル』のMOJAVE STAGE（モハーヴェ・ステージ）に、X JAPANがヘッドライナーとして登場。 先週に続き2度に渡って出演したコーチェラのステージで圧巻のパフォーマンスを披露し、トリを飾る大役を見事に務めあげた。

2度目のステージとなった今回は、前週のショーの評判と、YOSHIKIが連日にわたって米国メディアに登場したことにより、オーディエンスが前回の数倍もの数に膨れ上った。同時刻に行なわれたビヨンセの動員には及ばなかったものの、 会場は大勢の観客による熱気で溢れかえる。「MIRACLE」でYOSHIKIが登場すると共に大歓声が湧き上がり、「JADE」「RUSTY NAIL」「紅」「Born To Be Free」など、大迫力のパフォーマンスで観る者すべてを魅了していく。

YOSHIKIの友人であるマリリン・マンソンとのスペシャルパフォーマンスでは、マリリン・マンソンの代表曲であるEurythmicsのカバー「Sweet Dreams」を演奏。YOSHIKIのピアノとマリリン・マンソンのボーカルという幻想的なアレンジに酔いしれ、心を打たれる場面も。

さらに「X」では、HIDEとTAIJIのダブルホログラムが現れ、まるで2人が本当にステージに立っているかのような錯覚に会場のボルテージは最高潮に達した。 前週に続き、スペシャルゲストとして参加したガンズ・アンド・ローゼズのリチャード・フォータスと、リンプ・ビズキットのウェス・ボーランドという豪華ギタリスト2名も力強いパフォーマンスでステージに花を添え、約1時間に及ぶX JAPANのステージは、大成功のうちに幕を閉じた。

公演中、YOSHIKIがMCで叫んだ“Thank you for supporting X JAPAN.　Thank you for supporting Rock'n roll.　Rock is here to stay.（X JAPANをサポートしてくれてありがとう。 ロックをサポートしてくれてありがとう。 ロックは死んでない。 ）”の言葉にオーディエンスからは割れんばかりの歓声が鳴り響き、その光景、そしてメンバー7人で挑んだコーチェラのステージが米国において前回の米マディソン・スクエア・ガーデンを超えるX JAPANの歴史上最大の功績をあげた事を体現していたに違いない。

また当日、『コーチェラ・フェス』のオフィシャルTwitterでは、YOSHIKI及びX JAPANについて“Rock will be alive and well with @XJapanOfficial and @YoshikiOfficial（ロックは、 X JAPANとYOSHIKIと共に息を吹き返す。）”との投稿がされたため、こちらも是非チェックしてみてほしい。
