“スポーツの秋”に聴きたい5曲

“体育の日”と言えば10月10日でしたが、ハッピーマンデー制度により、今年は10月９日でした。この日は晴れが多いということで、秋は運動会が頻繁に行なわれるシーズンです。“スポーツの秋”という言葉が流布されるようになったのは、1964年に開催された東京オリンピックがきっかけという説が濃厚で、それで体育の日も制定されたようです。要するにスポーツに慣れ親しんでもらおうということですね。個人的にも学生時代と比べると、めっきり体を動かす機会は減りました。とういことで、体をムズムズ動かしたくなる、発汗作用抜群の音楽をここでは紹介します。

■1. 「Time To Crow」（’17） ／Hi-STANDARD

前作『MAKING THE ROAD』以来、フル作としてはなんと約18年振りになるニューアルバム『The Gift』が発売された。ご存知の通り、オリコン週間アルバムランキングで初登場１位を獲得！　Hi-STANDARDと言えば、90年代に前代未聞のパンクフェス『AIR JAM』を立ち上げ、ここ日本にユースカルチャーとしてのパンクを根付かせた功労者と言って過言ではない。それが今なお“AIR JAM世代”“ハイスタ世代”という言葉さえ生み出す影響力を見せているが、今作で彼らは《全ての世代を越えたガキども》（「All Generations」）と歌い上げている。そう、全世代に向けて発信しているのだ。4曲目に収録されたこの曲は歌＆コーラスの掛け合いも抜群で、軽快なリフワークとともに疾走するナンバー。モッシュ、ダイブせずにはいられないハイスタらしい高揚感漲る曲調だ。

■2. 「Burn」（’17）／HAWAIIAN6

そのハイスタの姿に憧れて、バンドを立ち上げたのがHawaiian6。彼らも今年結成20周年という大台に突入した。しかし、今がもっとも脂が乗っているのではないか、と思うほどの充実ぶりだ。今月に5thアルバム『Beyond The Reach』が出たばかりだが、3ピースのカタマリ感はより強固になり、シンプルかつストレートな勢いに長けた楽曲が並んでいる。今作にも収録され、先行シングル的なかたちでリリースされた「Burn」はヘヴィなリフがうねりを上げ、曲名通りに燃え盛る熱量で突き進む豪快さ。ライヴハウスのフロアで観客が大暴れしている絵が脳裏に浮かんでくる。身も心も焼き尽くされる楽曲だ。


■3. 「Spiral」（’17）／OVER ARM THROW

6年振りにニューアルバム『Pressure』を発表した、横浜発のメロディックパンク3人組。彼らもハイスタの薫陶を受けたバンドのひとつと言っていい。ただ、ルーツ的にはパンクだけではなく、オルタナ、グランジ、ロックなど幅広いバックグラウンドを持ち、今作もバラエティーに富む曲調でリスナーの気持ちに寄り添うサウンドを鳴らす。「Spiral」は彼らが持つ爽やかで美しいメロディーを高らかに響かせるパンクチューン。この曲も騒がずにはいられない高揚感溢れる楽曲だ。


■4. 「ただ単に」（’17）／THE冠

パンクのあとは、メタルアーティストが続きます。THE冠のニューアルバム『奪冠』はヘヴィメタル魂と愛を握りしめたまま、ライヴハウスで暴れたくて仕方ないキッズ、またはメタルは普段聴かないというパンク、ラウド好きのファンも面倒を見るというか、守備範囲の広いサウンドでがっちりと引き付ける。このバランス感覚がほんとに素晴らしい！　メタルを愛し続けながら、日本のパンク、ラウド系とも積極的に関わっている冠だからこそできる離れ業と言っていいだろう。歴史の縦糸と、現在進行形の横糸を巧みに結びつける手腕はお見事！


■5. 「Hammer Down and Go」（’17） ／OUTRAGE

今年デビュー30周年を迎える、名古屋を拠点に活動するOUTRAGE。もはやベテランクラスの仲間入りと言えなくもないが、このニューアルバム『Raging Out』はベテラン風は絶無。いぶし銀、滋味豊か、哀愁漂う…という言葉とは100万年遠い、初期衝動サウンドを豪快に掻き鳴らしている。聴いた瞬間に、頭上から巨大ハンマーを振り落とされるほどのインパクト。オールドスクールのスラッシュメタルに加え、ハードコア、パンクの荒々しもねじ込んだ音像にぶっ飛ばされること間違いなし！　音を聴いた瞬間から、無尽蔵のエネルギーが体内から沸き上がることだろう。
