【Goodbye holiday】みなさんの日々を少しでも鮮やかにできたら

──2008年に広島で結成されたとのことですが、どんなバンドにしたいと思っていたのでしょうか？

福山「児玉の歌声とメロディーをたくさんの人に届けるためのバンドサウンドを大事にして、誰からも愛されるようなバンドになりたいと思っていました。」

──2011年より拠点を東京に移されましたが、上京する際にはどんな気持ちでしたか？

児玉「初めてだらけの環境に不安が多かったです。でも、“4人で試行錯誤しながらやっていけば、Goodbye holidayは必ず何とかなる”という思いは結成当初から変わりませんでした。」

──広島で活動している頃と現在とでは、やはり音楽性やバンドに対する意識も変わりました？

福山「広島時代に観に来てくれていた友人は東京にはもちろんいないわけで、初めて僕たちを観てくれる人たちにどうやって楽しんでもらうか、聴き込んでもらうか、ライヴにまた来たいと思ってもらうか…ということを強く意識するようになりましたね。バンドの内側ばかりに向けていたエネルギーを外に向かって放出しなきゃなって思いました。ライヴ全体を通してひとつのエンタテイメントショーをお客さんに披露するんだ、という気持ちで。」

──Goodbye holidayの楽曲は躍動感があってライヴの絵が浮かぶのですが、曲作りやアレンジを行なう際に意識していること、こだわっていることは？

山崎「演奏がメロディーの邪魔をしていなくて、個性を表現しつつバンドとしてうまくまとまることを意識しているのですが、最近は特にライヴでの盛り上がりも考えて曲のアレンジを考えるようになりましたね。“このフレーズはCDではこうだけど、ライヴでは変化させて臨場感を出そう”という話し合いもします。」

──歌詞は自分が感じている焦燥感や孤独感などがリアルに描かれていますよね。

児玉「自分の気持ちに正直に書いています。葛藤があれば、それもそのまま書くことが多いですね。聴いてくれる方が共感してくれて、そこから一緒に前に進めたらいいなと思っているので。それをストレートにすっと伝えるために、メロディーに対する言葉の割り当てはよく考えています。」

──今年の1月に待望のアルバム『ソラリス』がリリースされましたが、どんな作品にしたいという構想があったのでしょうか？　疾走感のある「ブリキ行進曲」や言葉と歌の強さが印象的な「等価な世界」、16部のダンサブルなビートの「半透明」…などGoodbye holidayのいろいろな側面を切り取っていますが。

大森「Goodbye holiday初の全国流通となる作品なので、いろんな側面の僕たちを知ってもらうために、毛色の違う曲を収録して、バラエティー豊かなものにしたいと思っていました。何度も飽きずに繰り返して聴いてもらえるように。」

児玉「タイプは全部違うのにメロディーがキャッチーで分かりやすいというところも特徴です。」

──ギターソロだったり、フレージングだったりが、サウンドの要になっていますが、やはりアルバム用にリアレンジやリメイクはされたのでしょうか？

大森「しています。特に「等価な世界」は大きくアレンジし直しました。児玉が歌詞をより自分の心に近いものに書き直したり、それに沿うようにバンドサウンドもアレンジしました。」

山崎「「等価な世界」はこれまでよりもコーラスを多めに入れて、歌詞の印象を深くしましたね。あと、「deco」は元気が良い曲なんですけど、少し幻想的になるように響かせるミックスをしたので世界観が広がっています。」

──そんなアルバムのタイトルの“ソラリス”に込めた想いというのは？

福山「“ソラリス”はラテン語で“太陽”を意味しています。太陽はひとつで誰にも必要なものですが、心を支える“太陽のようなもの”はそれぞれたくさんあると思います。このアルバムがみなさんにとってそういうもののひとつになれば、という思いを込めて…また、僕たち自身の今後を照らす太陽にもしたい、という意味も込めて“ソラリス”と付けました。」

──本作『ソラリス』ですが、どんな作品が作れた手応えがありますか？

児玉「これがGoodbye holidayです！と言って名刺を渡すような感じです。いろんな感じ方が可能な作品だからこそ、どこでもいつでも聴いてもらえる一枚だと思います。」

──では、最後に希望的観測も含め、ここからGoodbye holidayをどんなバンドにしていきたいと考えていますか？

児玉「広く深く、いろんな場所、いろんな人から愛されるバンドになっていきたいと思います。みなさんの日々を少しでも鮮やかにできたら。」
