SCHAFT、21年ぶりの2ndツアー終了＆アンコールでは未発表新曲も

SCHAFTのツアー『TOUR ULTRA –The Loud Engine-』が2月6日、大阪・梅田CLUB QUATTROでファイナルを迎えた。

このツアーは21年振りにリリースしたアルバム『ULTRA』に伴って行われたもの。大阪公演は最終日でもあり、関東圏外唯一の公演でもあったため、チケットは即日SOLD OUT。満員の会場が爆音のサウンドに酔いしれた。

メンバーが登場すると、『ULTRA』の一曲目であり、ツアータイトルにもなっている「The loud engine」からスタート。全身を撃ち抜くような硬質でいてヘヴィなサウンドが激しくフロアを揺らす。 続く「Vice」ではYOW-ROWに煽られ、オーディエンスの声が響いた。ピョンピョン跳ねたりリズムを取りながらギターをかき鳴らす今井と、じっとフロアを見据えながら演奏する藤井は、静と動の対照的な存在感を放ち、上田はその間をゆっくりとした動きで徘徊しながらフロアを盛り上げ、yukihiroは寡黙にそのボトムを支えた。そしてYOW-ROWは4人が鳴らす轟音に負けない、パワフルな声を上げる。

セットリストはアルバム『ULTRA』の楽曲を中心に、1994年にリリースした『SWITCHBLADE』のナンバーと、さらに新曲2曲を加えた全19曲。クアトロという会場サイズならではの一体感が生み出す高揚感からか、YOW-ROWからは今まで以上に笑みがこぼれ、フロアから飛んできた「今井さん！」という声援に、思わず今井が「何!?」と返すという和やかな場面もあった。

この結成したばかりの“バンド”は、全6公演のツアーで大きな成長を遂げた。MCもなく轟音を打ち鳴らした初日の川崎CLUB CITTA'のステージは、SCHAFTの骨なる部分をしっかりとみせるもので、そこから回を重ねバンド感が増し、肉付けがされ、そのヘヴィなサウンドにも人間味が感じられた最終日。「メンバー紹介をします。ドラムyukihiro、ベース上田剛士、ギター藤井麻輝、ギター今井寿、ボーカルYOW-ROWです」。

このYOW-ROWの何気ないメンバー紹介にも変化があった。先月行ったEX THEATER ROPPONGIでYOW-ROWは、yukihiro、上田剛士、YOW-ROW、藤井麻輝、今井寿の順に紹介をしていたのだ。YOW-ROWの意識も高まり、今井と藤井のユニットとしてスタートしたSCHAFTはが、遂に“バンド"としての完成形を迎えたのではないだろうか。その歴史的瞬間ともいえる本ライヴの模様については映像作品化のプランも進んでいるとのことで、オフィシャルのアナウンスを期待して待ちたい。

そして、ファンとしては本ツアーの先にあるSCHAFTを見てみたいという欲求にかられるのは至極当然のこと。アンコールで披露された新曲の行方も大いに気になるところだ。SCHAFTの再開を願わずにはいられない。
