X JAPAN、英国ロックの殿堂ウェンブリー・アリーナでの公演が大成功！

X JAPANが3月4日にウェンブリー・アリーナ（現SSEアリーナ・ウェンブリー）にて『X JAPAN LIVE 2017 at the WEMBLEY Arena in LONDON』を行なった。

2016年3月に予定されていた本公演の延期から1年の時を経て、遂にこの日“英国ロックの殿堂”のステージに立ったX JAPAN。

「RUSTY NAIL」に始まり 「HERO」「JADE」「Born To Be Free」「X」「ENDLESS RAIN」などグループの代表曲に加え、Queenの「Bohemian Rhapsody」やDavid Bowieの「Space Oddity」など、 YOSHIKIがイギリスならではの曲をサプライズでピアノ演奏。

さらに、この日公開録音したファンの歌声で完成形を迎えるという新曲「KISS THE SKY」や、音源化されてない「Beneath The Skin」などの特別な楽曲、そして映画『WE ARE X』のテーマソングである「La Venus」など、客席を埋め尽くした1万人の観客を前に全23曲を披露。1年の間このステージを待ちわびていたファンたちの熱気は凄まじく、 会場は終始熱い盛り上がりを見せていた。また日本ではWOWOWでの生中継、 そして日本時間3月5日には全国の映画館でライブビューイングを開催。ライブ会場さながら各地の劇場も現地に負けないほどの熱気に包まれていた。

昨年末の紅白歌合戦で初お披露目し、これまでライブでは使用されたことのなかったKAWAIの新型クリスタルピアノをわざわざ日本から空輸するなど、ウェンブリー公演へのこだわりは生半可なものではなく、このステージに立つまでの道のりは決して平坦ではなかった。1年前に突如見舞われたPATAの急病により、一時はグループとしてこの先の活動が危ぶまれた時期もあったが、そこからの復活劇。X JAPANはより強くなり満を持してこのステージに立ったのだ。こうして2014年の米マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン公演、YOSHIKI単独での米カーネギーホール公演、そして今回の英ウェンブリー・アリーナ公演を成功させたことで、彼らは3大殿堂制覇という記念すべき快挙を成し遂げた。

さらに異例の動きを見せているのが、映画『WE ARE X』公開同日に全世界同時リリースされたオリジナル・サウンドトラックだ。 現在世界17カ国で1位を独走中で、日本ではなんと発売初日で4桁のバックオーダーが入るなど、リリースされた直後にも関わらず世界中で大きな盛り上がりを見せている。ライブ前日に行なわれた現地HMVでのサントラリリース記念サイン会では500人を超えるファンが訪れ、CDは即完売。ロンドン中心地にある会場周辺は一時パニック状態になるほど、X JAPANを一目見ようと多くの人が駆け付けた。

これまで世界22の映画祭で上映され、作品招待のオファーは今もなお途絶えることなく続いている。各国で巻き起こった“X JAPAN旋風”は、より勢力を増しまだまだ拡大していくことだろう。
