OBLIVION DUST、活動が再び始まる勢いが 滲み出ている感じがした

　それぞれの活動を経て、再び始動したOBLIVION DUST。アルバムへの期待が膨らむ中、シングルとして「TUNE」が先行配信された！

──“前作から約3年の沈黙を破り、本格再始動！”ということですが、前回の再始動の時と今回とでは何か違いはありますか？

KEN 解散後の再始動一発目の作品であるアルバム『OBLIVION DUST』は、解散から6～7年振りということもあって、メンバーがまたお互いを知る時間やOBLIVION DUSTのモードに入るといった時間が必要だったんだけど、今回の「TUNE」はすんなりとOBLIVION DUSTとして活動再開できましたね。ライヴではあんまり感じないけど、曲作りやレコーディングではやっぱり全員が成長しているというか、曲の書き方や音の録り方などが変わっていたりしていて。前回は少しそういった部分を知る時間が必要だったからね。

──リリースするにあたって何曲か候補があったと思うのですが、その中から「TUNE」を選んだ理由というのは？

KEN 3年振りに出す音として一番フィットしていたという。実際もっとポップな曲やもっと激しい曲などあったけど、この曲が一番今のOBLIVION DUSTを表していて、活動が再び始まる勢いが滲み出てた感じがしたからかな。

──曲を作ったのはいつ頃になるのですか？

K.A.Z 今年の始めにライヴをやった後、新しい音源を作るのが決まった時に最初に作った曲だから、だいぶ前だね。モード的にもその時期の気持ちがうまく曲調に反映できてると思います。

KEN そうだね。K.A.Zから音が届いて、その後に僕のほうでメロディーをすぐ作ったので、今年の中頃ぐらいにはベーシックなかたちはできてましたね。その時にはサビが少し違う感じで、“惜しい”という印象だったんだけど、夏ぐらいにK.A.Zとスタジオに入って、彼が新しいギターフレーズを弾きながら、僕が歌メロを試していくという、少しセッションっぽい感じで作り上げました。歌詞はその後に書いたので、完成は秋頃ですかね。時間かけ過ぎですね（笑）。

──アレンジを組み立てる時に意識したことは？

K.A.Z 全体としてはシンプルなアレンジなんだけど、サビはドラムのビートをハーフな部分と疾走感がある部分を持たせニュアンスや表情を豊かにしました。間奏部分は緊張感を持たせる雰囲気から加速する感じを持たせて、最後のサビをドラマチックに演出したかったんです。

──歌の部分ではKENくんらしい噛み付くような歌い方ではなく、伸びやかなヴォーカルが印象的でした。

KEN 僕はまったく噛み付き系ではないですよ。むしろ入れ歯を外しているお婆ちゃんのようなソフトなタッチです（笑）。そんなことはさておき、前作からのK.A.Zは伸びるような歌メロが合うような楽曲を作る感じが多く、それが一番僕の中では10年前のK.A.Zと今のK.A.Zの違いとして感じてる。すごく彼はポップになったというか。なので、歌入れ、メロディー作りも自然に“K.A.Zはこういうポップな感じを求めてるのではないかな？”という考えでやってみました。もちろん、自分の書いた歌詞にも合わせて歌う必要があるので、これらの要素を全てひとつにして“力強く”“ポップ”に歌いました。とはいえ、大して深くは考えてませんよ。自然な感じがベストだと思っているので。

──OBLIVION DUSTとしての次のアクションは？

KEN＆K.A.Z もちろんアルバムだよ。

K.A.Z 新しい音源はかなりキてると思うから楽しみにしててほしいですね。シングルだけでは言い表せないくらいのバリエーションがあるから。
