PENICILLIN、結成26周年ライブでサポートベーシスト・HIROKIの卒業を発表

PENICILLINの結成26周年記念公演『26th ANNIVERSARY HAPPY BIRTHDAY & VALENTINE'S DAY LIVE SPECIAL』が2月10～11日、新宿ReNYにて行われた。2月14日が結成記念日のPENICILLINにとって、この時期にライブを行うことは恒例となっているが、例え“いつもの"ライブであったとしても、何年と積み重ねてきていても、いや、むしろ何年も積み重ねてきているからこそ、1年の中でやはりこの記念公演は特別なものである。

迎えた二日目、新たな1年の幕開けを示すように「NEW FUTURE」でスタートを切ったステージは、代表曲の一つ「CRASH」や最新作『Lover's Melancholy』収録曲、「螺旋階段」「Melody」といったインディーズ時代の楽曲など、幅広いラインナップで展開。様々な場面を経ながら、ライブ鉄板曲でもある「FOR BEAUTIFUL MAD HUMAN LIFE」に至るまで、全20曲、2時間半に渡る特別な一夜を繰り広げた。

今回の周年ライブでは“いつも"とは異なる点があり、10年半に渡ってPENICILLINのライブをサポートしてきたベーシストのHIROKIが、26周年の4公演をもって卒業することが発表された。メンバーが学生時代からの交友関係にあり、特別な存在であっただけに、ファンにとっても衝撃的な発表となったが、HAKUEI（Vo）は『続けてきたからこその寂しさでもあり、乗り越えられることでもある。そういうことをファンのみんなと共有できるバンドもなかなかいないと思う』と話したのだった。

この記念公演は残すところ2月17～18日、梅田 Shangri-Laでの二日間。HAKUEI、千聖（G）、O-JIRO（Dr）、そしてHIROKI（B）の4人で音を鳴らす現状最後となるステージを、ぜひ多くのオーディエンスに見届けてほしい。
