Empress(女帝)と名乗りながら、ぜんぜん女帝じゃないガーリーな3人が、会場限定シングル盤を発売!!!

2019年7月、ガールズロック・シーンに突如姿を現したバンドがいる。彼女たちは、みずからをEmpress(女帝)と名乗り、威風堂々としたステージングを展開。目ざとい音楽ファンたちは、早くも彼女らに熱い視線を注ぎ、その成長を追いかけている。

マナ(Vo)・みつき(G)・Yui(B)の3人が織りなすEmpressは、エッジの効いたラウド/ハーロックなサウンドをベースにしながら、耳心地良いメロディアスな歌を魅力にしている。触れた人たちの気持ちを熱く滾らせながらも、歌に心が強く惹かれる。ライブでは臨場感を持った演奏に刺激を受け、ステージ前方で騒ぐ観客たちが増え続けている。

活動を始めてから約5ヶ月後となる12月25日(ギターみつきの誕生日)、Empressは初の音源「one day/渚」を会場限定音源としてリリースする。先に今後の予定を伝えておくと、Empressは2020年4月に初の全国流通となる1stミニアルバムの発売に向け、現在制作を進めている。バンドは、そのときを全国進出へ踏み出すための第一歩と位置づけているように、今回の会場限定盤は、応援し続けている人たちと高めてきた熱を共有し、さらに大きく膨らませてゆくアイテムとしての役割を担っている。
だからと言って安易に作り上げた作品ではない。むしろ、Empressが始動したときに生まれた3曲の中の2曲を形にしたように、バンドにとって始まりを示すのと同時に、今のEmpressのライブに於ける顔とも言える曲たちを詰め込んだシングル盤にもなっている。同作品の魅力を、3人が以下のように語ってくれた。

マナ：12月25日のライブより、1stシングル「one day/渚」を会場限定盤として販売します。「one day」は、出だしから壮大さを打ち出しながらもロック感が強く出た、まさにEmpressの方向性を最初に示した明るい楽曲です。歌詞には、「人生を生きてゆく中で」というテーマを据えました。具体的に語るなら、「明日が来ることはけっして当たり前じゃない。だからこそ1日1日を大切に生きて欲しいし、後悔のない人生にしたい」。その強い意思を自分たちへも向けつつ、Empressに触れた人たちにもこの想いを共有してもらいたくて書いています。
Yui：第一印象はキャッチーながら、実際に演奏をしていると楽曲へ重量感を覚えれば、ライブで演るたびにフロアでみんなが盛り上がるように、すごくノリやすい楽曲です。マナの書いた歌詞にも、強く共感を覚えています。
みつき：触れた瞬間にポップさを感じながらも、じつはグッとくる感情的な楽曲です。演奏をしているとテンションがどんどん上がれば、ギターもガツガツ弾いていくように、ライブでは一緒にオイオイ盛り上がってください。
わたしが作詞/作曲を手がけた「渚」は、会場中の人たちと一つになれる楽曲をという狙いを持って作りました。サビ歌で、みんなで一緒に手を振れたらいいなということも意識しています。歌詞は、まだYuiがメンバー加入する前の2人きりだった時代に書きました。ここには、マナと出会う前と出会った後両方の気持ちを記してあります。「君の声に弾かれて」という言葉は、まさにマナの歌声のことです。
マナ：その言葉を聴いたうえで受け取った歌詞を読んだときには、わたし泣いちゃいました。一行一行からみつきの気持ちが伝わるように、大好きな歌です。わたし自身が「渚」に気持ちを支えられているように、道に迷ったときや気持ちが落ち込んだときに聴いてもらいたいし、その人の心も支えられたらなと思っています。曲調もポップなのが魅力です。
Yui：「渚」をライブで演奏するたびに、お客さんたちが手を振りながら楽しくはしゃぎだすんですね。あの一体感を持った風景を観るたびに、わたしも幸せを感じています。
マナ：「one day」も「渚」も、今のEmpressを代表する曲たち。だからこそ、これからもライブでは中心に据えながら想いを伝え続けてゆくつもりです。

始動して間もないバンドとはいえ、すでに熱狂的な信者もつき、次第に支持者も増えだしている。まだまだこれからとはいえ、成長著しい未完成なバンドだからこそ、次々と夢を膨らませ、それを現実化してゆく姿を一緒に追いかけて欲しい。
