吉川晃司、Birthday Nightに綾小路翔など豪華ゲストとサプライズ共演！

　8月16日、吉川晃司が日本武道館で一夜限りのスペシャルライブ『KIKKAWA KOJI Birthday Night "B-SIDE+"』を開催した。

　スペシャルライブ『KIKKAWA KOJI Birthday Night "B-SIDE+"』が行われた8月16日はデビュー30周年のアニバーサリー・イヤーにして、49歳の誕生日の前々日。この日は黒柳徹子、中村獅童、及川光博、岡村靖幸、阿川佐和子、小林武史といった吉川と親交のある各界の著名人からのお祝いコメント映像が流れる豪華なオープニング。しかも黒柳徹子が影アナを務め、小林武史がシークレットゲストとして1曲目の「Rainy Lane」の冒頭からピアノを演奏するサプライズの連続での始まりとなった。

　この日のステージ、シングルのカップリング曲やレアな曲を中心とした構成で、参加ミュージシャンも普段とは違う。「誕生日を祝ってもらえるなら、日本の最高のミュージシャンの方とセッションしたい」という本人の希望で、中学時代に広島でライブを観に行っていたというカシオペアの野呂一生（G）、80年代中盤の吉川作品のグルーヴを担っていた後藤次利（B）、山木秀夫（Dr）という超強力なリズム隊、さらには30年目にして初という山根麻以、坪倉唯子という女性コーラス2人も参加。ミステリアスなコーラスで始まった「ロスト・チャイルド」、生のグルーヴが新鮮な「MISS COOL」など、スリリングなステージを展開。「これからは男くさいのだけでなく、エロい感じもやっていきたい」との発言もあり。COMPLEXの「GOOD SAVAGE」では野呂と吉川のギター・バトルも実現。バースデイ・ケーキならぬ、バースデイ日本酒が登場して、観客とメンバーが祝福すると、こんな挨拶。

　「49歳、四苦八苦の年だろうなと。苦しいとか激しいとか、摩擦係数の高いのが大好きで、闘ってないと生きていけない生物、刺激がないと生きていけない生き物なので、影ながら応援してください」 （吉川晃司）

　アンコール前にもドラゴンアッシュのKj、前田日明、怒髪天の増子直純、唐沢寿明、布袋寅泰、氣志團の綾小路翔からのお祝いコメントが流れた。さらにこの日、北海道で開催されていたライジング・サン・ロック・フェスティバルの会場から綾小路翔が駆けつけて、氣志團万博への出演依頼の直談判。その熱意に動かされて、吉川もその場で参加を表明。その後、一緒に「にくまれそうなNEWフェイス」を歌う場面もあった。ファンとの絆、ミュージシャンとの絆が見えてくるステージ、そして懐かしい曲をたくさん歌いながら、未来を切り拓いていくようなステージでもあった。

　9月6日には唐沢寿明主演映画『イン・ザ・ヒーロー』の主題歌でもある「Dream On」がシングルとしてリリース。さらに8月23日からは前編、後編で1曲もかぶりなしという2DAYS開催のツアー、「KIKKAWA KOJI 30th Anniversary Live "SINGLES+"」もスタートする。 デビュー30周年の今後の動向にも注目しよう。
