vistlip、ミクスチャーバンドとして突き詰めたい

　今まで手を付けてこなかった新たな挑戦を行なっているという13枚目のシングル「Jack」。アルバムにもつながるこの作品について、智（Vo）とTohya（Dr）に訊いた。

──「Jack」の歌詞はこれまでに比べ、非常にイメージが沸きやすい表現になっていますね。

智「ファンタジーみたいな感じの比喩はやり切った感があったので、今度はストレートでどこまで書けるかなと。完全にはまっている言葉を探すのがまた楽しかったりするんです。バンドのカラーがストレートになることによって、力強さが増すんじゃないかと思っています。」

──曲調もかなりメジャーですね。

Tohya「いつもどこかひねくれていた感じはあったんですけど、今回はストレートですね。この曲は前シングル「Period」を制作している時に、たまたまメジャー感のあるイントロが浮かんだんで、カップリングで提出したんです。そしたら智が“次のアニメのオープニングでいけるんじゃないか”と言ったので珍しくとっておいたんですよ。」

──MVでは水が印象的ですが、なぜ水を使おうと？

智「単に水が好きで（笑）。独り言のように“水を使いたい”と言っていたら、海が俺の気持ちを汲んでくれて。今回は光と影の照明使いが上手な監督さんにお願いしたのですが、バンド演奏と影の感じが新鮮でした。人間の立体感がすごく出ています。」

──2曲目の「Scapegoat」の歌詞に《妙に固い絆を誇る演奏の真ん中で》とありますが、これはvistlipのことですか？

智「そうです。長年やっていれば、人は悩むじゃないですか。その中でもふとした瞬間に、“このバンドっていいな”と思えることがあったりして。そういうのを再確認するという感じですね。「Period」と「Jack」の収録曲は、自分が無垢な頃から悩んで、葛藤して、答えを見つけて、次に行くというテーマで書いていて、両シングルの収録曲6曲をつなげているような感じなんです。」

──「Scapegoat」のイントロは最初かわいい音なのですが、いきなりダークに切り替わるというひねりがあるという。

Tohya「この曲はゲームのテーマソングですが、先方がvistlipを知っていてくれて、ぜひお願いしたいと言われて、“こういう楽曲にしてほしい”という希望を聞いてから作った曲なんです。例えば、頭の部分は“かわいらしい音から始まりたい”と言われたので、かわいらしいアニメをいろいろ観て、どんな音楽が流れているかを調べました。」

──lipper盤のみ収録されている「Laser」の詞は戦いの場面を描いていますが。

智「戦場が舞台になっているんですけど、今まで武器の名前が付いたミニアルバムをよく出していたので、まず自分たちを例えていて。また、歌詞にある《焼け跡の劇場》は『THEATER』というアルバム、《傷を越え、時空を超え》の“傷”が「ORDER MADE」で“時空”が『CHRONUS』というアルバムにかけていて。この曲がアルバムまでの最後の曲として、“第三の目を開いて、次に行こう”というメッセージがあります。」

──ダンスミュージック的な「Laser」は挑戦だったのでは？

Tohya「瑠伊が持ってきた曲ですが、とにかくここまでデジタル色が強くて、そこにハードなギターを持ってくるのはなかったです。どうギターを乗せるかYuhはかなり悩んでいましたが、最終的に海が考えたリフをYuhがアレンジし直しました。僕らは今、7年目にして、ミクスチャーバンドとしてミクスチャーを突き詰めたいという思いがあるんですよ。自分たちにある要素をしっかりミックスし、より際立ったものを表現することが、今年からのvistlipなのかなと感じています。」
