【HAKAIHAYABUSA】最初に出てきた言葉が一番本音に近いのかなと

　アメリカ西海岸発のSUBLIMEに通じるレイドバックした音を鳴らすHAKAIHAYABUSA。彼らがなんとミニアルバム『As Always』を持って、メジャーへと進出する！

──昨年はバンド結成10周年でしたね。

KZ「一瞬でした。メンバー交代も多くて、それに際して音楽性も徐々に変わったので、常に違うバンドを渡り歩いてるような感覚でしたね」

──オリジナルメンバーはKZさんだけですよね？

KZ「そうですね。結成当時は鋲ジャンのパンクス、ウッドベースを使うサイコビリーバンドと対バンして、僕らは最初スカパンクでしたけど、ぐちゃぐちゃで面白かったです」

──現在のSUBLIMEのような音楽に行き着いたのは？

KZ「当時、みんなSUBLIMEが好きで。それから徐々に日本語の曲も入れて…音楽的には今も模索中なんですよね」

──現編成に固まってからのバンド内の空気はいかがですか？

Moby「Wackのギターは表現力があるので、上にも下にも横にもアレンジの部分で幅は広がりましたね」

KZ「Wackはムードメーカーとしての役割もあるし」

──Wackさんは加入して、このバンドをどう思いましたか？

Wack「今まで歩んできた僕の音楽人生とは真逆で…最初はゆるすぎてびっくりしました（笑）」

Moby「そのゆるい感じも曲につながっているのかなと。みんなポワーッとしてます」

──（笑）。そして、今作はメジャー第一弾作品なわけで。

Moby「インディーズだとか、メジャーだとか関係なく、特にスタンスは変えずに自分たちの今好きな音楽を発表したかったので、“As Always＝いつも通り”っていうのを掲げて取り組んだ作品です。鍵盤やパーカッションの方たちをゲストに迎えて、楽しく録音できましたね」

──1曲目「いつものmusic」は、今作の空気を象徴する平熱感が出てますいね。

Moby「この曲は息子に向けた内容で、まだ母ちゃんの腹の中にいる時に歌詞を書いて。今、１歳３カ月なんですけど、子供がいる人もいない人でも、大切な人に置き換えて共感してくれたらなと。普段の生活の中で自分たちが感じた気持ちを“分かる分かる！”と頷いてもらえたら最高ですね」

──なるほど。5曲目「U・E・WO」は今作唯一のパーティーソングで、いいフックとなっていて。

Wack「アッパーな曲が欲しいと言われて、最後に急遽作ったんですよ。イントロはKZ、サビはMobyが作って…」

Moby「この曲だけ作曲は全員なんですよ。全体の組み立てはWackがやってくれて」

KZ「今までになかった新しい作り方ですね。ミクスチャー世代も引っかかってくれる曲なので、作って良かったです」

──6曲目「天使の休日」もアコギを基調にした穏やかな曲調で、《生まれたその時から　君は君でしかない》という歌詞もHAKAIHAYABUSAらしくて。以前からそういう考え方で？

KZ「意識せずにペンを走らせて、出てきた言葉を音に乗せただけです。最初に出てきた言葉が一番本音に近いのかなと。インタビューもポンと出る言葉が真実やと思うし。あと、ライフスタイルと直結している音楽…それはSUBLIMEやLong Beach Dub All Stars（本作収録曲「ONE BIG FAMILY」にOpie Ortiz（Vo）がコーラスで参加）に対する尊敬の念でもあるんです。30分のステージでも嘘があるとひとつの仕草でバレますからね。だったら、最初からカッコ悪い自分でいいかなと。SUBLIMEも腹が出てて、ダラしないけど、カッコ良いですからね」
