LOUDNESS、『THUNDER IN THE EAST 30th Anniversary Edition』の続報が到着

日本を代表するヘヴィメタル・バンド、LOUDNESSの世界進出アルバム『THUNDER IN THE EAST』。このアルバムのリリース30周年を記念し、2015年11月25日にリリースされる『THUNDER IN THE EAST 30th Anniversary Edition』の続報が解禁された。

LOUDNESSの記念すべき『THUNDER IN THE EAST 30th Anniversary Edition』は、初回生産限定盤「Limited Edition」と、3000セット限定のプレミアムBOX仕様「Ultimate Edition」の2種類が用意されると発表されていたが、続報で発表されたのは初回限定盤『Limited Editon』のボーナストラックとして2曲、3000セット限定生産プレミアムBOX『Ultimate Edition』のCD2、CD3、カセットテープに合計21曲も収録されることになった未発表音源すべてと、プレミアムBOXに収録される復刻グッズ、記念グッズの数々だ。特に注目すべきは、大量に収録されることになる未発表音源！　アルバム『THUNDER IN THE EAST』として完成される前の3段階の音源が30年間の時を超えて初めて音源化され、アルバム制作過程がすべて明らかにされる。

第1段階としてプレミアムBOX 【CD2】に収録される未発表音源は、9曲。これらの楽曲は、マックス・ノーマンに委ねる前、日本国内のレコーディング・スタジオで本格的にマルチテープを回し、バンドだけでアレンジしレコーディングされたデモ楽曲。日本語と英語を織り交ぜて歌われるこれらの楽曲は、その全てが驚くほどの高い完成度を誇り、マックス・ノーマンにプロデュースされる前の時点で、実は完成形がバンドの中でほぼ見えていた事実が判明する。 また『THUNDER IN THE EAST』に収録されなかった2曲の重要楽曲デモの存在。第三期の名盤『LOUDNESS』で完成形を見ることになる「FIRESTORM」が、実は『THUNDER IN THE EAST』の候補曲だったことと、その高い完成度、また後にLIVEの代表SEともなる「ERUPTION」が、ギターとギターシンセでほぼ完成形に近い形で表現できていることに驚くだろう。なお、『Limited Edition』には、この中から「CRAZY NIGHTS」「WE COULD BE TOGETHER」が収録される。

【CD3】に収録されるのは、最終的にアルバムに収録された10曲の、SOUND CITY STUDIOにおける1984年9月25日時点での貴重なインストゥルメンタル音源。全曲のドラム／ベース／バッキング・ギターに加え、9月25日段階で録音されたギター・ソロも数曲収録されている。【CD2】で聴けるデモ音源からの変化、そして最終的に発売された音源への過程として違いを楽しむもよし、またカラオケ・トラックとして歌をのせたり、ギター・ソロをかぶせて楽しむなど、さまざまな楽しみ方ができる。

また『CASSETE TAPE』に収録されるのは、最初のデモ12曲で、マックスとレコーディングに入ることが決まり、LAでの打合せ時の彼のアドバイスである「他にもアップテンポの曲を」という言葉を受け、帰国後さらに書かれたという楽曲。リハーサル・スタジオで一発録音された楽曲は、メンバーの肉声を含めたその生々しさと演奏力に驚かされると共に、たびたびメンバーや関係者の証言にもある「アップテンポの曲を持って実際スタジオに入ったら、マックスにいきなりテンポを半分にされた」という真実が、このカセットで明らかになる。

30周年を記念した3000セット限定3万円の超豪華仕様であるプレミアムBOXの内容は、同梱される『THUNDER IN THE EAST』の完全復刻オリジナルLP盤ひとつひとつにゴールドの文字でシリアルナンバーが刻印。また、当時のツアー・パンフレット「WORLD CIRCUIT '85 CHAPTER 1」「WORLD CIRCUIT '85 CHAPTER 2」「LOUDNESS WORLD CIRCUIT '86 CHAPTER 3」の3種類が、それぞれEPサイズに生まれ変わり完全復刻される。当時のアメリカツアー“THUNDER IN THE EAST TOUR IN THE WEST"復刻ロゴをフロントに配し、バックプリントには全米ツアー60箇所全てのツアー日程を記載したTシャツ（フリーサイズ）と、当時のラミネートパスも完全再現（裏面には35周年記念ロゴを配置）。記念グッズとして、このBOXセットのためだけにそれぞれ記念デザインが施された4種類のピックも同梱されることになった。 これら数々の作品とグッズは、特殊加工印刷によって美しく仕上げられたハードケース内に丁寧に梱包されるという。3000セット限定商品のため、予約はお早めにおすすめしたい。
